PHRYGIA. Temenothyrae. Pseudo-autonomous issue. Tetrassarion (Bronze, 31 mm, 16.17 g, 7 h), G. Arruntius Nikomachos Τiberinianus, high priest and first archon for the second time. Time of Philip I, 244-249. ΚΤΙϹΤΗϹ Bearded head of the city founder Herakles to right. Rev. ΝΙΚΟΜΧΟϹ (sic!) ΑΡΧΙЄΡ ΑΡΧ Α ΤΟ Β // ΤΗΜЄΝΟΘΥ/ΡЄΥϹΙ The Dioskouroi standing facing, heads turned right and left, each wearing pilos surmounted by a star and holding a spear. RPC VIII online ID 20265. Extremely rare. Patina stripped and retoned, otherwise, very fine.


The fact that the name of the archiereus is in the nominative and the ethnic in the dative indicates that this issue was paid for by the first archon Nikomachos as a form of euergetism to his polis.
